Wire Harness Installation

Figure 11:

1. In the security system harness, locate the two black wires with bullet connectors. Either one can be used for the hood pinswitch. Cut the other from the harness (Figure 11) and discard. Using electrical tape, tape-up the cut end.

Again being careful not to jar or move the module, connect the wire harness to the ECM.

Figure 12:

2. Route the security system gray door switch wire along the radio antenna cable, under the floor cross brace to the rear seat area (Figure 12). Lift the front corner of the side trim panel to locate the single green/red stripe and red ringed door switch wire where it is held by a plastic bracket. Scotchlok(R) the security system gray wire and the existing vehicle green/red wire together.

Figure 13:

3. If the Status Monitor was installed in the center console, route the new 5-wire harness under the carpet to the center control console (Figure 13).

Figure 14:

4. If the Status Monitor was installed on the instrument cluster housing, go to Step 5. Connect the 5 pin Status Monitor wiring harness together (Figure 14).

Figure 15:

5. Following the existing vehicle wire harness, route the remaining wires forward, under the protective shield, along the inside of the vehicle frame (Figure 15).

If the Status Monitor was installed on the instrument cluster housing, connect the 5 pin Status Monitor wiring harness together.

Figure 16:

6. Attach the green ground wire to the vehicle centralized ground location near the fusebox (Figure 16).

Figure 17:

7. Unbolt the fusebox and lower it. On the front of the fusebox, locate the 16 pin connector C-37 (1990), C-45 (1991) (Figure 17).

Figure 18:

8. Locate the existing green/white wire in connector C-37 (1990), C-45 (1991) position 8 (Figure 18).

Figure 19:

9. Using a Scotchlok(R) connector, connect the side lamp yellow wire from the alarm harness to the vehicle green/white wire (Figure 19).

Figure 20:

10. On the backside of the fusebox, locate the 6 pin connector (Connector C-44 (1990), C-52 (1991) Figure 20).

Figure 21:

11. Using a Scotchlok(R) connector, connect the security system red system power wire to the vehicle white/green wire (position 4, Figure 21).

Figure 22:

12. Route the green/black horn trigger wire up past the fusebox, along the existing harness, toward the steering column and through the existing harness clamp (Figure 22).

Figure 23:

13. Locate the 20-pin steering column connector C-06 (1990 and 1991) (Figure 23).

NOTE: To ease the Scotchlok(R) installation remove heater ducts, strip the harness wrapping tape and disconnect the connector.

Figure 24:

14. Connect the security system green/black horn trigger wire to the green/black vehicle wire in position 18 (Figure 24). Reconnect the connector, replace the wrapping tape, and reinstall the heater duct.

Figure 25:

15. Locate connector C-40 (1990), C-48 (1991) (Figure 25) in the front of the fusebox.

Figure 26:

Connect the security system ACC orange wire to the vehicle green/white wire (Figure 26).

Figure 27:

16. Using a small punch, make a small hole in the upper right corner of the rubber steering cover (Figure 27).

Figure 28:

17. Route the black pin switch wire under the carpet toward the accelerator pedal. Push the black wire through the existing cable retainer near the rubber steering cover (Figure 28) and finally push the black wire through the hole previously made in the cover.

NOTE: Use care when pushing the black wire through the rubber steering cover. It will tear easily.
