System Testing

Figure 34:




1. Close the doors, hood, and trunk. Turn the interior light OFF.

2. The test LED (Figure 34) on the side of the ECM should be off.
3. Move the switch on the status monitor to ALARM OFF position.

4. When opening each door, hood and rear hatch, one at a time, the test LED on the ECM should light. If one of these inputs does not illuminate the LED, check the wiring for that input.

5. Tap the module. The test LED should flicker.

6. Turn the Status Monitor switch to the ON (middle) position.

7. Turn the ignition switch ON then OFF.

8. Turn the interior light OFF. Close the doors, hood and rear hatch.

9. Watch the Monitor status LED. It should be flashing rapidly. After about 30 seconds the rate of flash should slow, showing that the system is now ARMED. If the LED does not flash slow after about 30 seconds recheck steps 1-6.
10. Open a door. The LED on the status monitor will begin flashing rapidly and an audible pulse will be heard from the Status Monitor. The alarm will trigger after about 20 seconds.

11. Check that the horn sounds and the tail lights flash. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The alarm should stop.

12. Re-arm the alarm system. Open the hood. The alarm should be triggered immediately.

13. The alarm should also activate immediately if the vehicle is jarred. Check by sharply bouncing the vehicle's bumper. The impact sensor is adjustable by a three-position switch on the electronic module. Adjust as necessary as outlined below.

NOTE: Setting the sensitivity too high may cause false triggering due to hail, wind gusts, loud noises. etc.

14. If the Status Monitor switch is OFF, turn the switch to the ON position (middle).

15. Make sure that the ignition is OFF and the interior light is OFF. Close all doors, the hood and the rear hatch.

16. Standing close to the vehicle, press the keyring transmitter button:
- when the horn sounds TWICE, the system is disarmed.
- when the horn sounds ONCE, the system is armed.

17. Panic Test: Press and hold the keyring transmitter button for several seconds, until the horn sounds and the lights flash. To shut off the PANIC feature, press the keyring transmitter button a second time or turn the ignition key to the ACC position.

NOTE: While the panic feature is activated, the transmifter range becomes limited, sometimes requiring the use of the ignition key.
