Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation

Purge Control Valve Location:

The Purge Control Solenoid Valve, located on the firewall, is an electromechanical, vacuum switching valve.

Purge Control System:

When the ECU senses conditions suitable for purge operation, it supplies the ground circuit to the solenoid. The plunger in the solenoid moves, closing the vent port. This allows vacuum to be applied to the purge port of the canister.
