Check Engine/Malfunction Indicator Lamp
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMPAmong the self-diagnostic items, a malfunction indicator light comes on to notify the driver of emission control items that are malfunctioning. However, when a signal returns to normal and the ECU senses that it has returned to normal, the malfunction indicator light goes out.
Immediately after the ignition switch is turned on, the malfunction indicator light is lit for 5 seconds to indicate it is operating normally. The MIL will come ON only while the engine is running and a problem is detected.

There are two different wiring harnesses used on this vehicle. A poor connection at a crimp may be causing the check engine light to come on. Refer to the TSB for further information.
