Removal and Replacement

Fig. 5 Replacing Power Steering Pump:
1. Drain power steering fluid into a suitable container.
2. Replace power steering pump in numbered sequence shown in Figs. 4 and 5, noting the following:
a. Turn pulley to align pulley hole with bolt position to remove mounting bolts.
b. On 1989-90 Sigma models, when installing pressure hose, connect hose so that slit part contacts oil pump guide bracket.
c. On Galant models, connect so that hose covers 1 inch of pump tube.

Fig. 6 Replacing Rear Power Steering Pump:
1. Drain power steering fluid into a suitable container.
2. Remove main muffler assembly.
3. Replace rear power steering pump in numbered sequence shown in Fig. 6.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Bleed the power steering system.
b. Bleed the 4 Wheel Steering (4WS) system.
