Brakes - ABS Operation Characteristics

90mitsubishi13 SUBJECT:

ABS OPERATION
NO. TSB-90-35-002

DATE November, 1990

MODEL Eclipse
PURPOSE

This bulletin clarifies the normal operation characteristics of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS).

OPERATION DESCRIPTION

The system may exhibit one or more of the following operational characteristics under ABS conditions:

1. A slight pulsing may be felt in the brake pedal.

2. Vibration may be felt in the body or steering wheel.

These two conditions are normal, caused by the cycling of the Hydraulic Unit, and do not indicate a malfunction. These two conditions provide the driver with tactile feedback indicating that the ABS system is in operation and functioning as it should.

3. When the ABS system activates under wet driving conditions the brakes themselves may emit a growling or grinding noise. Once again this sound is normal.

NOTE: Under dry road conditions the growling or grinding noise will usually not be heard.
