Affected Vehicles

This procedure applies to 1987 Federal 1.5L Precis models WITHOUT A VACUUM REGULATOR VALVE. There is no limitation as to mileage. It does not apply to any other models or to vehicles with a vacuum regulator valve.

NOTE: Approximately 40 of the cars whose owners were notified have a vacuum regulator valve, located on the bulkhead right next to the High Altitude Compensator valve and thus the Service Writer should inspect each car brought in for this recall. If the car does HAVE a vacuum regulator valve it is NOT involved in this recall.
MANDATORY REPAIRS

The repair procedures cover the following, regardless of the vehicle's age or mileage:

1. Enlargement of the secondary air nipple hole.

2. Replacement of the carburetor primary main air jet.

3. Installation of a carburetor choke shim cap.

4. Cleaning of the Sub-EGR valve, choke linkage, and secondary main air jet.

5. Resetting of the ignition timing and installation of the "AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION LABEL".
