PURPOSE
This bulletin shows the location of the Engine Code Plate, the VIN plate, and the Vehicle Identification Code Plate on the 1987 Precis and explains the meaning of the letters and numbers on these plates.

ENGINE CODE PLATE
The Engine Code Plate is located on the right side of the cylinder block near the water pump as shown in Fig. 1. The meanings of the characters are explained in Table 1.

The Vehicle Identification Code Plate is located on the cowl panel under the hood as shown in Fig. 2.

VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) PLATE
The VIN plate is located on the left top side of the instrument panel pad where it is visible through the windshield. The numbers and letters are illustrated in Fig. 4 and explained in Table III.
