PURPOSE

This bulletin contains a removal procedure for the lower knee bolster pad of 1987 Precis vehicles equipped with the passive restraint system. Because this procedure is not contained in the 1987 Precis Service Manual, the red lettered label above should be added to page 600-42 of the service manual as reference to this bulletin.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the four screws from the main center console and slide the console rearward (Figure 1).

2. Remove the four screws from the supplement console and remove the supplement (Figure 2). It is necessary to disconnect the tailgate opener switch connector to completely remove this piece.

3. Remove the attachment bolt cover bezels and bolts from each end of the lower knee bolster (Figure 3).

4. Remove the attachment screw located near the instrument panel light and wiper rheostats (Figure 3).

5. Pull the bolster pad straight out.
NOTE: Use extreme care as considerable effort is required.

6. Disconnect the hood release mechanism and electrical connections from the bolster pad if necessary.

7. Reverse this procedure for installation.
