Installation of Carburetor Choke Shim Cap
8. Disengage the high altitude compensator from the clip on the bulkhead and move it away from the carburetor.
WARNING: This procedure should be performed on a cool engine.
9. To relieve cooling system pressure, loosen the radiator cap. Tighten the radiator cap. Disconnect the upper coolant hose from the carburetor choke wax element housing, and carefully move it away from the carburetor to prevent damaging the hose or spilling coolant.
10. Remove the throttle return spring bracket.

11. Shown in this picture is a basic outline view of the choke mechanism. Note that the area between the choke adjustment screw and the plunger is behind the choke linkage and is hidden from view.
12. Using the fast idle release driver special tool, insert the tool between the thermo wax element housing and the choke linkage.
13. Spread the choke linkages to create a gap between the choke adjustment screw and the plunger of the thermo wax element. Make sure not to interfere with the throttle lever or other linkages. With the linkages spread, install the cap portion of the choke shim onto the threaded end of the choke adjustment screw. The cap portion of the shim should be inserted between the plunger and the choke adjustment screw.
14. With the Fast Idle Release Driver still in place, install the plastic choke shim cap onto the tip of the choke adjust contact screw using the handle.
NOTE: To allow easier installation twist the choke shim cap on the installation handle to give an angle of approximately 10 degrees.
15. While holding the shim cap in place with the installation handle, remove the Fast Idle Release Driver.
16. Make sure the choke shim cap has not moved out of position and is securely on the end of the choke adjusting screw.
NOTE: The choke adjusting shim is not available separately.
17. Break off the installation handle from the shim cap. Make sure the choke shim cap has not dropped down.
18. Reinstall the throttle return spring bracket, the high altitude compensator and the upper coolant hose.
