MODEL All Models Except Trucks
PURPOSE
The wheel runout limit has been changed so that wheel runout specifications are the same for all vehicles of all model years except Trucks. This bulletin describes the new runout specifications. Wheel runout specifications for trucks are covered in STB-87-22-001.
FIGURE 1:
PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle so that the wheels are clear of the floor.
2. Loosen all wheel nuts. Re-tighten nuts evenly in a criss-cross pattern as shown in Figure 1. Use service manual torque specifications.

3. Turn the wheel slowly, and use a dial indicator at the locations shown in Figure 2 to measure the radial and the lateral wheel runout.

4. The new wheel runout readings on the dial indicator should be as shown in Figure 3.
NOTE: If the wheel runout exceeds either the radial limit or the lateral limit, the wheel should be replaced.
