Oil Pump: Service and Repair

To remove oil pump pickup, refer to ``Oil Pan, Replace.''




1. Remove timing case as described under ``Timing Case, Replace.''
2. Remove oil pump cover, then the inner and outer gears from front case. Mark outer gear surface facing timing case so it can be installed in the same direction.
3. Remove relief valve plug, spring and valve.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Lubricate oil pump internal components with engine oil before installing. Torque oil pump cover attaching bolts to 6 to 7 ft. lbs. After installing oil pump cover, check to ensure that oil pump gears rotate smoothly. Torque relief valve plug to 29-36 ft. lbs.
