51 31 000 Removing And Installing/Renewing Windscreen
IMPORTANT:
The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:
- Notes on window bonding
- General procedure for dismantling/installing bonded window glass
NOTE:
- Replacement: Removal is carried out with wire pull handles.
- If reusing: Removal is performed with Roll Out 2000.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove cover for windscreen cowl panel.
- Remove inside mirror
- Remove trim panels for roof pillar at front
- Remove trim on windscreen at top
- Remove retaining strip for cowl panel cover
Replacement:
- Remove rain/light sensor
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Secure cable with adhesive tape to windscreen.
IMPORTANT: Pay attention to cable when cutting in this area.
Cut out windscreen.
Installation note:
If necessary, replace defective expanding foam tape.
Version with visible vehicle identification number:
Stick 60 mm long expanding foam tape 5 mm above viewing window for VIN onto ceramic layer of windscreen.
Fitting 3 spacer buffers (spacers):
IMPORTANT:
- To avoid windscreen breakage and wind noises:
- Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers (1) and maintain installation position exactly.
Stick semicircular spacer buffers (1) onto body flange.
Overview of windscreen bonding:
Fit top windscreen cover before bonding the windscreen.
Where required, fit new retaining strip for cowl panel cover (observe centre markings).
Bead joint (1) is located at the bottom centre of the windscreen.
Pay attention to the following regarding the windscreen:
- Position at the top until sealing (2) is resting evenly in line with the trim strip (1) in accordance with dimension (A)
A = 5.8 ± 2 mm
- Align sides evenly
- Insert at bottom and press down
- in this position secure at top with two yellow plastic adhesive tapes*
