SUBJECT
Cracking or Popping Noise from Rear Axle

MODEL
R60

SITUATION
A cracking or popping noise is heard from the rear axle during take-offs or during load reversal.

CAUSE
Rear axle nut incorrectly torqued

PROCEDURE
Confirm the noise is coming from the wheel bearing area and isolate which side the noise is coming from. Replace the affected axle nut (P/N 31
10 6 773 005) and torque to 250Nm. Peen the nut after torquing.

Labor operation code 36 10 340 is a Main labor operation. If you are already using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 36 10 810 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.

Even though work time labor operation code 33 99 000 ends in "000," it is not considered a Main labor operation.
