9.4.18. Fuel Injection System
Both the N16 and N18 engines use the cylinder-individual, fully sequential fuel injection system. The N18 uses a "direct" fuel injection system while the N16 uses a "manifold" fuel injection system.

N18 Engine
The N18 engine operates with a direct injection system. Direct injection boosts the power output.

9.4.19. High Pressure Pump
Control takes place on the basis of a nominal / actual comparison of the rail pressure by the quantity control valve. The configuration of the pressure aims to achieve the best possible fuel consumption and operational smoothness of the N18 engine. A pressure of 200 bar / 2940 psi is required only at high load and low engine speed.
