Removing and Installing Complete Rear Axle Carrier
33 31 000 - Removing and installing complete rear axle carrier
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody panelling on left and right Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Left or Right Underbody Panelling
- Remove exhaust system Service and Repair and thermal insulation
- Disengage handbrake Bowden cables from brake caliper Service and Repair and remove from rear axle carrier
- If necessary, remove ride-height sensor with bracket 37 14 512 Replacing Rear Ride-Height Sensor
- Remove upper and lower control arms
Press clutch pedal down to floor and secure with pedal support.
Note:
The pedal support may only be released when the brake lines are reconnected.
This prevents brake fluid from emerging from the expansion tank and air from entering the system when the brake lines are opened.
Important!
Grip brake hose at square drive to prevent connecting piece from turning in retaining bracket.
Detach brake hose (1) on left and right from brake line.
Disengage leads for pulse generator and brake pad sensor from rear axle carrier.
Installation:
Tightening torque 34 32 1AZ 34 32 Brake Lines.
Release left and right screws (1).
Installation:
Tightening torque 33 55 3AZ [1][2]33 55 Anti-Roll Bar.
Warning!
Support fuel tank and rear axle carrier over a wide surface separately from each other.
Release screws (1) of rear tank mounting.
Installation:
Tightening torque 16 11 3AZ 16 11 Fuel Tank and Mounting Parts.
Release screws (2).
Lower rear axle carrier and feed out handbrake Bowden cables.
Installation:
Replace microencapsulated screws.
Make sure screws are installed in correct positions.
Tightening torque 33 31 1AZ [1][2]Rear Subframe.
After installation:
- Bleed braking system
- Perform chassis alignment check
