Fuel Rail: Service and Repair
13 53 240 Replacing complete fuel rail (N12, N16)
Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Read out fault memory of DME control unit.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove intake silencer housing.
Recycling
Fuel escapes when fuel line is detached. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Remove protective cap (1) from compressed air valve.
Connect compressed air line to compressed air valve.
Blow fuel back into fuel tank with a short blast of compressed air (max. 3 bar).
Unlock and detach fuel line (1).
Check fuel line for damage.
Replace damaged fuel line.
NOTE: Only if fuel line is damaged.
Install new fuel hose with anti-chafing protection. Also install a double C clip (1) to ensure that clearance from other hoses is provided.
Close off fuel line with special tool 13 5 281.
Release screws.
Tightening torque 13 53 4AZ.
Detach fuel rail (1) from cylinder head.
Unlock connector (1) and remove.
Remove fuel rail (2).
Lever out retainers (1).
Pull fuel injectors (2) out of fuel injection pipe.
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings on fuel injectors and coat with anti-friction rubber coating.
NOTE:
Check stored fault messages.
Delete fault memory.
