CAUSE

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves R55, R56 and R57 vehicles produced from November 2010 to February 2011.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 55. If code number 55 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 55 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further
action.
PROCEDURE
Checking the sill trim strips
1. Visually check the front door sill strips to see if they are deformed or partially peeling up from the corners.
Note:
Do not use any tools or levers to pry up and check for adhesion.
2. If there is no visible damage, no further action is required.
3. If the visual check shows deformation or peeling, proceed to the next step.
Replacing the sill trim strips
4. Mark the original location of the sill strip for reference, and then peel off the defective sill trim strip. Refer to ISTA Repair Instructions 51 71 418, "Replacing the cover trim for the left and right frame side member."
5. Clean the door sill trim strip area with cleaning agent (P/N 83 19 0 417 324).
6. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape of the new sill trim strip.
7. Align the sill trim strip to your reference marks, and then apply the new sill strip firmly.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 55. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (MD20-040) and:
A. Emboss your MINI dealer's warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 55 (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
