Exhaust camshaft sensor

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
Engine running
Terminal condition: Terminal 15
Voltage condition:
none

Condition for fault memory entry
14 crankshaft revolutions

Action in service
1. Check signal wire for short to positive, ground, open wire
(ignition off)
2. Check sensor power-supply voltage (4.5 to 5.5 V)
(ignition on)
3. Check plug-in contacts (intermittent open)
4. Check sensor installation (gap to reluctor ring is too
large/small, specified gap is 0.1 to 2.0 mm)
Determine whether the camshaft position sensor is correctly
installed and ensure that the bolt is not loose. Torque
specification is 1.5 - 2 Nm
The sensor must be installed at a right angle above the
camshaft reluctor ring.
Inspect the O-ring and replace if damaged or missing.
5. Check reluctor ring for correct installation and for damage
--> Check alignment (timing setting) of camshaft reluctor
rings
6. Replace sensor

Fault effect and breakdown warning
The engine reverts to its emergency limp-home program,
continued vehicle operation is possible, because power is
reduced the driver should refrain from passing maneuvers.
Long starting periods, loss of power
