33 55 000 Removing And Installing/Replacing Rear Stabilizer Bar

Special tools required:







WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Failure to comply with the following instructions may result in the vehicle slipping off the vehicle hoist and critically injuring other persons.
Load the luggage compartment with a minimum of 100 kg before lowering/removing the rear axle support. This prevents the vehicle from tilting or sliding off the vehicle hoist.
When supporting components, make sure that:
- the vehicle can no longer be raised or lowered
- the vehicle does not lift off the locating plates on the vehicle hoist.







IMPORTANT: Before lowering/removing rear axle support:

Observe safety instructions for raising the vehicle

In order to avoid damage to vehicle hoist, perform weight compensation on vehicle.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody panelling left and right. (R55, R56, R58)
- Remove cross reinforcement vehicle underbody. (R57)
- Remove rear left and right spring strut shock absorbers.







NOTE: A wheel alignment is not necessary after the anti-roll bar has been removed and installed/replaced.







Unscrew left and right nuts (1). If necessary, counter support at hexagon socket (2) or dihedron.
Tightening torque 33 55 1AZ 00 00 Excerpt From Company Standard BMW GS 90003-2

Installation note:
Replace self-locking nut.







NOTE:
Picture created using the R55 COOPER S as the example. There may be differences in detail in the case of other models.
Disengage exhaust rubber at rear.

Release screws (1) and nuts (2).
Remove heat shield (3) in rear area from body.







NOTE: Brake line is located on right side of underbody in front of fuel tank.

Remove brake line (1) from holders (2).

Installation note:
Replace damaged holders.
Make sure brake line is correctly seated in holders.







Support rear axle support with special tool 31 5 251, 31 5 252 and 31 5 253.







Release screws (1, 2) on left and right.
Tightening torque 33 31 1AZ.

Installation note:
Replace microencapsulated screws.
Make sure screws are installed in correct positions.
- Screw (1) M12x62
- Screw (2) M 12x132







Lower rear axle support by max. A = 40 mm.







Release left and right screws (1).
Tightening torque 33 55 3AZ 00 00 Excerpt From Company Standard BMW GS 90003-2
Remove retaining bar and rubber mount on left and right.
Turn stabilizer bar and feed out sideways.

Installation note:
Keep rubber mount and stabilizer clean and free from oil and grease.
