Campaign - Spare Tire Retainer Inspection

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Check Spare Tire Retainer

MODEL
Cooper Clubman (R55)

SITUATION

The spare tire retainer may have been over-tightened during the assembly process. If the retainer is overtightened, it may be difficult to remove the spare in the event of a flat tire.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves Cooper Clubman models which were produced from May 27th 2009 to June 23rd 2009.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 44. If code number 44 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 44 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

PROCEDURE





Open the split doors and remove the spare tire cover; refer to Repair Instruction RA 51 47 ... "Removing spare tire cover".

Remove the onboard tool kit to access the spare tire. Using an E7 Torx socket, loosen the stud (1).

Turn the retainer (2) counterclockwise 3 full revolutions.

Tighten the stud (1) to 8 Nm.

Turn the retainer clockwise to secure the spare tire.

Reinstall the tool kit and spare tire cover.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 44. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (MD 20040) and:

A. Emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 44 (2), printed on the label; and





C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
