Front Seat




72 12 050 - Removing and installing side airbag (front seat)





Warning!
Observe safety regulations 51 00 ... Safety Instructions For Working on Cars With Airbag Systems for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can cause airbags to trigger, resulting in serious injuries.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove front seat Removing and Installing Left or Right Front Seat (Normal/Manual)





Release Torx screw (1).
Remove lever (2).
Release Torx screw (3).
Remove lever (4).
Tightening torque 52 13 2AZ Front Seats.





Detach retaining straps (1) for lower cover of backrest shell at seat cushion suspension.





Pull off backrest shell (1) in direction of arrow.





Detach rear retaining strip (1) for seat cover from frame.
Turn yellow MRS plug connector counterclockwise (as shown in illustration) and detach from seat mechanism.
Release airbag wiring harness from retaining clips (2) on seat mechanism.
Detach airbag wiring harness from seat mechanism.





Warning!
Take care when detach the retaining strap for the airbag unit to ensure that the strap is NOT damaged by the buckle.





Detach retaining strap (1) for airbag unit.
Detach retaining strip (2) for backrest cover from backrest frame.
Release airbag wiring harness from retaining clip (3).
Unscrew nuts (4).
Tightening torque 72 12 6AZ 72 12 Airbag gas generator, unit for passenger side.
Detach grommet (5).





Warning!
Feed the wiring harness carefully through the seat and backrest mechanism as the edges of the frame can be sharp.

Detach airbag wiring harness from backrest.

Remove airbag.





Installation Note:
When installing the airbag unit in the backrest, make sure that the fleece is located as shown between the retaining strap fitting and the backrest frame (risk of rattling).
