Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

Replacing Crankshaft Radial Seal
Special tools required:

^ 11 8 220
^ 11 8 230
^ 23 0 490

Remove transmission.

Remove flywheel.





Remove radial seal with special tool 23 0 490





Clean cylinder block and crankshaft seal surfaces.

Install hint:
Fit special tool 11 8 220 to crankshaft.

Slide radial seal on to special tool 11 8 220





Install hint:
Use special tool 00 5 500 in conjunction with special tool 11 8 230 fit radial seal into cylinder block.





Ensure that the radial seal is flush with cylinder block.

Caution: the sealing lip is very sensitive and must not be kinked under any circumstances. Do not touch the sealing lip with your fingers.
