SUBJECT
Honking and/or Howling Noise during Downshift

MODEL
[NEW] R55 Cooper S Clubman with N14 engine and manual transmission
[NEW] R56 Cooper S with N14 engine and manual transmission

[NEW] From start of production up to July 16th, 2008

SITUATION

The customer may complain of a honking or howling noise while engaging the clutch, following a downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear and/or from 2nd to 1st gear.

[NEW] CAUSE

Due to an unfavorable tolerance interaction of the clutch and dual mass flywheel.

[NEW] CORRECTION

On a customer complaint basis, replace the clutch assembly. Do not replace the dual mass flywheel.
