SUBJECT
Incorrect Outside Mirror Caps Installed
MODEL
R55 (Cooper S Clubman) ordered with the Chrome Line Exterior (option 346)
Vehicles produced up to 1/6/08
SITUATION
Vehicles ordered with the Chrome Line Exterior (option 346) are intended to automatically receive chrome mirror caps (option 405). Some early production vehicles were produced incorrectly with body color mirror caps.
Affected vehicles may have the correct chrome mirror caps installed at no charge to the customer.
If the affected vehicle has not yet been delivered to a customer, the chrome mirror caps should be installed prior to the vehicle handover.
Only the vehicles that are listed in the attachment may have this retrofit performed under this Service Information.
CAUSE
Certain vehicles were inadvertently built with the wrong mirror caps installed.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Information involves Cooper S Clubman vehicles with option code SA346 and were produced up to 1/6/08.
All affected vehicles are listed by chassis number in the attachment M510408Affected_Vehicles.pdf.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
PROCEDURE
1. Compare the customer's chassis number to the list in the attachment to ensure that the vehicle is, in fact, on the list.
2. Replace the mirror caps per Repair Instruction RA 51 16 040
