Fuel System - Fuel Odors From Engine Compartment

R56 Cooper S with N14 engine

Vehicles produced from start of production up to March 7th, 2007

SITUATION
The customer complains of a fuel odor from the engine compartment.

CAUSE
The High Pressure Pump (HDP) and/or the low pressure supply hose connection can allow fuel seepage, resulting in the fuel odor.

PROCEDURE
On a customer complaint basis only, replace the High Pressure Pump (HDP) and low pressure supply line according to Repair Instruction RA 13 51 017, Removing and installing or replacing high-pressure pump (N14), and RA 13 31 035, Removing and installing or replacing fuel supply line (N14).
