Replacing Drive Shaft Radial Seal
23 12 509 - Replacing drive shaft radial seal
Special tools required:
- 23 0 350 23 0 350 Drift
- 23 0 490 23 0 490 Extractor
Note:
After completion of work, check gear oil level Service and Repair.
Use only the approved gear oil Transmission, General: R50, R52.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the manual transmission!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove transmission
Release retainer with screwdriver from clutch release lever.
Remove release lever (1).
Release screws (2) and remove guide bush.
Tightening torque 23 11 10AZ Specifications.
Drive a hole into radial shaft seal (1) using a center punch.
Screw special tool 23 0 490 23 0 490 Extractor into hole and drive out seal with impact weight (2).
Important!
Do not use a drill as drillings may result in transmission malfunction.
Remove retainer (1) from ball pin.
Fit new radial shaft seal on special tool 23 0 350 23 0 350 Drift and drive in.
Install retainer (1) in release lever (2).
Push release bearing (3) with release lever (2) onto guide bush.
Press retainer (1) firmly onto ball pin until it engages.
Installation:
Lubricate sealing lip of seal with clean gear oil.
Replace retaining screws of guide bush.
Lubricate toothing of input shaft and ball pin Operating Fluids.
Tightening torque 23 11 10AZ Specifications.
