Removing and Installing/Replacing Shift Tower (CVT)




25 16 056 - Removing and installing/replacing shift tower (CVT)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
Move selector lever to P position.
Remove center console 51 16 200 Removing And Installing Front Center Console.
Remove cable/parking gear Removing and Installing/Replacing Interlock Cable.
Remove final muffler Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Muffler.





Detach plug connector (1) of position switch.





Remove retaining elements (1) of front heat shield.
Tightening torque 51 48 1AZ 51 48 Heat Shields.
Note: It is not necessary to remove the heat shield.





Remove retaining elements (1) of middle heat shield.
Tightening torque 51 48 2AZ 51 48 Heat Shields.
Detach shift cable from mounting on floor.





Remove retaining screws (1) of gear shift housing.
Tightening torque 25 16 2AZ .





Undo fastening nut (1) of cable assembly.
Press retaining clip (2) together and remove cable from fixture (3).
Remove cable (4).
Tightening torque 24 11 6AZ [1][2]Fluid Pan, CVT.





Release retaining clips of housing (1) on floor.
Secure selector lever.
Remove housing.





Remove retaining clip of shift cable and disconnect shift cable on selector lever.
(1)Retaining clip of shift cable
(2)Selector lever
(3)Locking sleeve of ball joint
(4)Retaining lug of locking sleeve for ball joint
Note: If the shift cable is removed from the selector lever, the locking sleeve of the ball joint must be detached with the shift cable.





If necessary, install new shift cable.
Resecure housing on body.
Note: Make sure housing seal is correctly seated.
Move selector lever (1) to P position.
Resecure shift cable in fixture on transmission and install in cable mounting.
Reinsert cable in fixture on floor.





Make sure selector lever (1) is in P position P (press selector lever forwards).
Press shift cable in direction of passenger compartment (eliminate play).
Tighten down cable fixture (2).
Tightening torque 24 11 6AZ [1][2]Fluid Pan, CVT.
Reinstall cable/parking gear Removing and Installing/Replacing Interlock Cable.
Install center console 51 16 200 Removing And Installing Front Center Console
