SUBJECT
Alternator Battery Positive Cable Connection
MODEL
R56 Cooper N12
R56 Cooper S N14
SITUATION
Certain R56 Cooper and Cooper S models may have an alternator battery positive cable connection that has not been tightened to specification. Perform the repair procedure before customer delivery and or prior to vehicle use at your dealership.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
R56 Cooper and Cooper S vehicles produced from December 12, 2006 to February 2, 2007. Refer to the list for chassis numbers of the affected vehicles.
PROCEDURE
[NEW]Cars must first be checked for the presence of a Service Action sticker on the driver's B-pillar, punched out with code # 31.
^ [NEW] Sticker present: no action needed.
^ [NEW] Sticker not present: continue with the attached Procedure.
1. Disconnect battery.
2. Tighten the alternator battery positive cable connection to 13.5Nm. Refer to the attached PDF repair instructions for procedures.
3. Apply repair label to B pillar.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This repair has been assigned code number 31. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-036) and:
a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 31 (2) printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous repair or Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
