SUBJECT
Dashboard Storage / CD Changer Compartment

MODEL
R56 (Cooper, Cooper S)

SITUATION
Certain vehicles have been produced with a dashboard storage / CD changer compartment which may not meet MINI quality standards. Under certain conditions the dashboard storage / CD changer compartment hinged door may rattle. The procedure provided in this bulletin must be performed on all affected vehicles before customer delivery and or prior to any affected vehicle being used at your dealership for demonstration purposes. A service action is in preparation to restore the full function of the dashboard storage / CD changer compartment and will be announced as soon as parts become available.

The instrument panel storage/CD changer compartment concerned, may be accessed by pressing on the dashboard trim panel above the knee bolster.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Refer to list for the chassis numbers of the affected vehicles.

^ Cars with a trim panel for the storage compartment which does not currently open are not affected by this service information and do not require any repairs.

^ Cars with an opening trim panel AND with a Service Action sticker on the driver's B-pillar are also not affected and do not require repairs.

Note:
Even though this repair will render the trim panel opening mechanism inoperative, an upcoming Service Action will replace this CD Changer mount and panel to make it fully operational (including an opening panel) with updated parts which are currently unavailable. At that time, the 2 fasteners which were removed and not replaced during this procedure, will be re-installed.

PROCEDURE
Cars with an opening trim panel must first be checked for the presence of a Service Action sticker on the driver's B-pillar, punched out with code # 29.

^ Sticker present: no action needed.

^ Sticker not present: continue with the attached Procedure.
