Removing and Installing/Replacing Complete A/C Compressor




64 52 520 - Removing and installing/replacing complete A/C compressor





Special tools required:
- 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set)





Warning!
Risk of injury!

Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!

Follow safety instructions for handling R 134a refrigerant.

Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

Important!
Risk of damage!

Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.

Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor. Instructions for Compressor Replacement

Follow instructions Removal and Replacement for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit!

If A/C system is opened for more than 24 hours:

Replace desiccant insert for A/C system Removing and Installing/Replacing Drier Bottle for Air Conditioner





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Drawing off, evacuating and filling the A/C system Drawing Off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a) are not included in the time value given for this work operation
- Clamp off battery negative lead Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery
- W10, W11 only: Remove front underbody protection Service and Repair
- W10, W11 only: Remove condenser for A/C system Service and Repair
- Screw on a securing nut on each side of front end module
- Remove A/C compressor drive belt Replacing A/C Compressor Drive Belt





Version with automatic transmission:

Release screw (1), tightening torque 17 21 1AZ 17 22 Transmission Oil Cooler Lines.

Release radiator from mounting in direction of arrow.

Set radiator down outside working area.





Version with automatic transmission:

Remove guide pins for radiator mounting from front end module.

Detach radiator from lower mounts to expose A/C compressor and lines.





Release screw (1) for pressure line, tightening torque 64 52 2AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.

Disconnect pressure line.

Release screw (2) for suction line, tightening torque 64 52 2AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.

Disconnect suction line.

Installation Note:
Replace O-rings on both line connections.





Disconnect plug connection (1) for compressor clutch.

Release wiring harness retaining clip (2) from bracket.

Release bolt (3) at top right on A/C compressor, tightening torque 64 52 1AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.





Important!
Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set) to prevent escape of media and fouling.





Release bolt (1) at top left on A/C compressor, tightening torque 64 52 1AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.





Note:
Secure A/C compressor against falling out.

Release lower retaining bolt (1) on A/C compressor, tightening torque 64 52 1AZ [1][2]Compressor HVAC.

Remove A/C compressor.





Installation Note:
- Evacuate and fill A/C system Drawing Off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
