Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removing And Installing, Sealing/replacing Timing Case Cover
Special Tools Required:

^ 11 8 402
Remove vibration damper.
Remove alternator drive belt tensioner.
Remove crush tubes.
Slacken modular front end.
Fit special tool 11 8 401 and 11 8 402
Slacken coolant pump bolts (1) and move coolant pump (2) sufficiently to give access to front cover.
Hydro-mount to body (screw)
M10 x 110
Jointing torque 56 Nm
Torque angle 90
Remove timing cover in sequence (11-1).
Install hint: Align oil pump rotor flats with flats on crankshaft as you install the timing case cover to the cylinder block.
Tighten timing case cover in sequence (1-11).
Timing case cover to crankcase cover
M6 12 Nm
Note location of the Torx shoulder bolt (1), Torx round head bolt (2) and bolt with seal (3).
Install hint: Clean sealing surface.
Replace seal on bolt (3) and lubricate with clean engine oil.
Remove timing case cover seals.
1. Cover seal.
2. Oil pump inlet seal.
3. Oil pump outlet seal.
Install hint: Clean all sealing surfaces and install new seals.
Apply a 3 mm bead of loctite RTV 5999 sealer to cylinder block/bearing ladder joint (1),
Refer to BMW Parts Service.
Prime oil pump before installation by filling rotor cavity with engine oil.
Start engine and check for leaks.
