SUBJECT
Door Mechanisms and Power Windows: Symptom Diagnosis

MODEL
R55, R56 (Cooper, Cooper Clubman)

SITUATION
Symptom diagnosis has been expanded to include situations pertaining to the door mechanisms and/or power windows.

^ Operating failure and/or malfunctions in the door mechanisms for mechanical reasons

^ Noises from the front doors (rattling, grating)

Symptom diagnosis is updated periodically, so always use the current DIS version when performing symptom diagnosis.

CAUSE
Various causes can be identified using the Symptom Diagnosis Test plans.

The information in symptom diagnosis is based on technician feedback and experiences dealing with these symptoms.

PROCEDURE

1. Identify the exact customer complaint.

2. Perform a short test using the latest version of diagnostic software.

3. Symptom Diagnosis for these systems may be found using either procedure 1 or procedure 2 as follows:

Procedure 1 (via Fault Symptom selection)

4. Page right to the "Diagnosis Fault symptom selection" screen.

5. Select "5120 Locking Systems".

6. Select the symptom which best fits the customer complaint. The following selections are available (note: symptoms may vary slightly with each new DIS version and model selection).

^ "512031 Locking and security functions"

^ "512022 Power window malfunction"

^ "512035 Opening/closing of a faulty door"

^ "512036 Comfort Access faulty"

7. Once the symptom is selected, press the "Transfer" button to move the symptom into the "Accepted symptoms" field.

8. Page right and highlight the test plan associated with your symptom selection.

9. Start the test plan and finish the diagnosis.

Procedure 2 (via Function Selection)

4. Select the "Function selection" button.

5. Select "Complete vehicle"/"Body"/"Locking and security functions".

6. Depending on the nature of the complaint, select one of the following:

^ "Door mechanism, noises, front door"

^ "Door mechanism, mechanism, front door"

^ Or via:

^ "Complete vehicle"/"Body"/"Mechanisms, Noises, Optical Elements, Leaks"

^ "Mechanisms, mechanism, front door"

^ "Noises, noises, front door"

7. Select the "Test plan" button to go to "Diagnostic Test Plans".

8. Follow the test plan through to the end for the appropriate recommendation and Diagnostic code.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Information only

Warranty claims may be denied:

1. If not supported by diagnostic test plans (transferred via FASTA). Be sure to include the "Diagnostic code" in the comments section of the warranty claim if one exists.

2. If the latest diagnostic software is not used.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances.

If the appropriate labor operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labor operation should be used.
