SUBJECT
Knocking Noise from the Front of Vehicle
MODEL
R56 (all models built up to 12/13/07)
SITUATION
A knocking noise is heard from the front of vehicle during engine load reversals, or on uneven road surfaces.
CAUSE
1. Fasteners securing the transmission mounting bracket to the body are not tightened to the required specification.
2. The transmission mount is defective.
[NEW] PROCEDURE 1
On vehicles built up to 04/07:
Remove the transmission mounting bracket from the body, and inspect for excess body sealer contamination between the bracket and body mounting surfaces. Remove any excess sealer and reinstall the bracket, using new bolts (1). Refer to repair instruction for tightening torque If an excessive amount of sealer was not found, or the noise still persists, continue to Procedure 2.
[NEW] PROCEDURE 2
On vehicles built from 04/07 to 12/13/07, replace the transmission mount with the improved part. Replace the transmission mounting bracket bolts. Refer to Repair Instruction RA 22 31 005 for the transmission mount bracket removal and tightening torque.
