Campaign - Engine Cooling Fan Fuse Replacement
SI M61 04 07General Electrical Systems
July 2007
Technical Service
PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
SUBJECT
Service Action: R56 N12 - Replacement of the Fuse for Electric Cooling Fan
MODEL
MINI Cooper with N12 from start of production up to 04/23/07
SITUATION
The 30 Amp fuse, protecting an electric cooling fan circuit, may fail under heavy electrical load (e.g. engine start up). Consequently, at certain driving (stop & go) and ambient temperature conditions, the air condition system may malfunction and engine may overheat.
In such an event, engine output would be reduced and the red "coolant" warning light would be illuminated.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves MINI Cooper vehicles with N12 engines which were produced from the
start of production up to 04/23/2007.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action Campaign, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
CORRECTION
Replace factory installed fuse F08 (green 30 Amp) with a 40 Amp fuse (orange).
Fuse F08 (1) is located in the fuse box, in the engine compartment.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 33. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-036) and:
a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 33 printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the MINI New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
