SUBJECT
Seat Heater Feels Too Warm
MODEL
R56 (Cooper and Cooper S) produced up to 1/2008
SITUATION
When the seat heater reaches its maximum temperature, the customer may feel as though it is a few degrees too warm, even when set to the lowest setting.
The seat is in fact operating to specification, but is warmer than on previous MINIs.
CAUSE
The seat heater maximum temperature settings may not be to the customer's liking.
CORRECTION
An adapter harness may be added to the seat harness to lower each of the seat heater set points.
PROCEDURE
The following procedure is identical for both the left and right seats, and should be performed on both.
1. Remove the seat per Repair Instruction RA 52 13 00.
2. Disconnect the black connector (1) from the seat
module.
3. Cut off the connector at approximately A=10mm from the connector housing.
4. Remove approximately A=30mm of the black protective sheathing, and then remove approximately B=4mm of insulation from the end of each wire (1).
5. Crimp a supplied terminal connector (1) to each of the 3 wires.
6. Insert the 3 terminals into the supplied connector (1). They should be inserted in the same order that they were cut from the old connector. With the connector facing upward, the Brown wire (2) becomes pin 1, the
Violet wire (3) becomes pin 2, and Green/Violet wire (4) becomes pin 3.
7. Plug the adapter harness (1) into the new connector on the seat harness (2), and into the seat module (3).
8. Tuck the harness under the white plastic retainers on the seat bottom (1).
9. Reinstall the seat and verify seat heater operation.
