SUBJECT
Squeaking Noise from Sunroof
MODEL
R56 (Cooper, Cooper S) equipped with the panoramic sunroof, option 403, and produced up to February 14, 2007
SITUATION
When driving over rough roads with the front sunshade in the fully open position, a squeaking noise may be heard from the center area of the sunroof.
CAUSE
The plastic end stops for the sunshade are in contact with the plastic drain channel, creating a noise as they move in relation to each other.
CORRECTION
Felt tape may be applied to the rear edge of the end stops for the front sunshade.
PROCEDURE
1. Place the sunroof in the tilt position in order to access the sunshade end stops.
2. Cut 2 strips of adhesive backed felt, approximately 9mm X 35mm, from the felt square (P/N 65 77 1 377 052).
3. Apply a strip of felt to the rear edge of the end stop on the left side of the front sunshade (1), where it comes in contact with the drain channel (2). The felt strip should wrap around both sides of the end stop and be pressed firmly in place to secure it properly.
4. Repeat step 3 for the right side of the sunroof.
