Cell Phone - Interference on Landline Side of Phone Call

SUBJECT
Interference on Landline Side of Phone Call

MODEL
R56 (Cooper, Cooper S) with Bluetooth (SA644)

SITUATION
During a phone call the person on the landline side of the call complains of a static noise being heard.

CAUSE
1. With the blower fan set to maximum speed and the center vents pointing toward the microphone the person on the landline side of the call can hear the air blowing by the microphone.

2. On vehicles built prior to 12/4/2006, the microphone may have been incorrectly installed on driver's side of vehicle.

PROCEDURE
1. Explain to the customer that outside interference such as air blowing by the microphone could cause an unwanted noise the landline side of the call. Recommend to the customer to perform the following.

^ Reduce the fan speed during a phone call.

^ All four face vents should be fully open.

^ The face vents should not point towards the microphone.

2. On vehicles produced prior to 12/4/2006, check to see if the microphone is installed on the passenger's side of the vehicle.
