Shift Interlock: Description and Operation
Shift Interlock Relay (ECVT Model Only)
Shift Interlock Relay:
This relay is used to drive the shift lock system on automatic transmission equipped vehicles. The shift lock system is a safety feature to prevent unexpected drive away of the vehicle by locking the gear lever in Park unless the brake pedal is depressed.
Shiftlock function
Function
Shiftlock is a safety function that prevents inadvertent movement of the vehicle by locking the selector lever in the PARK position. The selector lever is released by pressing the brake pedal. As an option, the system can also lock the selector lever in the NEUTRAL position.
Relay failure
If the shiftlock relay fails, the unlock function cannot be activated. This prevents the engine from starting.

Installation location
The shiftlock relay is located in the passenger compartment fuse box.
Failure
