Front Seat (TU)




72 12 050 - Removing and installing side airbag (front seat)





Warning!
Observe safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can cause airbags to trigger, resulting in serious injuries.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove front seat Removing and Installing Left or Right Front Seat (TU)
- Remove rear panel Removing and Installing/Replacing Backward Backrest Panel on Left or Right Front Seat (Normal/Manual)





Detach self-adhesive sponge rubber strip (1).

Installation Note:
If necessary, attach new sponge rubber strip (1).





Disengage metal eyelet (1) from fabric tape fastener (2).

Installation Note:
When fitting, lay first fleece (4) and then foam material (3) between backrest frame and metal eyelet. Rattling noises.

Warning!
Do not allow fabric tape fastener to be damaged by metal eyelet.





Lever welt (1) out of backrest frame.
Disengage tensioning wire (2) from backrest frame.
Release screws (3).
Tightening torque 72 12 6AZ 72 12 Airbag gas generator, unit for passenger side.
Detach cable strap (4).

Installation Note:
Replace faulty cable strap.





Lever welt (1) out of seat cover.
Turn yellow MRS plug connector (4) in counterclockwise direction and release from seat mechanism.
Detach cable straps (2).

Installation Note:
Replace faulty cable straps (2).

Disengage airbag wiring harness from cable holder (3).

Feed airbag wiring harness out of seat mechanism.





Warning!
Feed wiring harness carefully through seat and backrest mechanism owing to sharpness of edges.





Remove airbag module (1).
