SUBJECT
Special Limited Oxygen Sensor Emissions Warranty of 10 Years/100,000 Miles

MODEL
R50 Cooper with the W10 engine produced from 10/2003 to 11/2006

R53 Cooper S with the W11 engine produced from 10/2003 to 11/2006

R52 Cooper and Cooper S Convertibles with W10 and W11 engines produced 10/2004 to 1/2006

SITUATION

MINI has determined that on certain MY2004, MY2005, and MY2006 vehicles produced during the affected production period, variations in the crimping process of the oxygen sensor could lead to an electrical failure inside the sensor.

We estimate that only a small percentage of vehicles will actually develop a problem. Vehicles affected may have the Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) on, with an oxygen sensor fault stored. When this failure is detected for the first time, a pending fault code is stored inside the DME. Upon confirmation of the malfunction, the MIL is illuminated.

CORRECTION

In the event that either of the oxygen sensors in a MY 2004, MY2005, and MY2006 Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper Convertible, or Cooper S Convertible with the W10 and W11 engines were to fail and exhibit the symptoms listed above it should be replaced with the improved part (P/N 11 78 0 872 674).

PARTS INFORMATION





[NEW] EMISSIONS WARRANTY INFORMATION
As a commitment to our customers and to demonstrate our confidence in our product, MINI will extend the emissions warranty of the oxygen sensor from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The emissions warranty extension for this component applies to the above-listed models only, and is transferable to any subsequent purchaser.

This extended emissions warranty is applicable to vehicles registered in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The existing warranty coverage for all other parts is not affected.

MINI has informed all affected owners of the above-listed models of their extended oxygen sensor emissions warranty. A sample letter is shown.
