Removing and Installing/Replacing Fuel Filler Flap Hinge




41 63 002 - Replacing fuel filler flap hinge





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove left rear wheel Removing or Installing Front or Rear Wheel
- Remove rear left wheel arch trim Service and Repair
- Remove flap for fuel filler neck Removing and Installing Flap for Fuel Filler Neck
- Remove servodrive for tank filler flap Service and Repair





Following new body parts are required (refer to EPC Electronic Parts Catalogue):
- (1) Hinge, fuel filler flap





Turn cover (1) through approx. 45° and lever out in direction of arrow.





Unscrew nuts (1) from fuel filler pipe.
Tightening torque 16 11 1AZ 16 11 Fuel Tank and Mounting Parts.
Release fuel filler pipe (2) from retaining pins and remove from assembly/fuel filler flap.

Installation:
Make sure grounding cable (3) is correctly fitted.

Vent hose seal must be correctly fitted.





Note:
Illustrations shows fuel filler pipe removed.

Release rubber seal from sheet metal flange.





Press retaining strap (1) inwards and remove.
Remove cover (2).
Remove rubber buffer (3) or pierce markings (3) with a small screwdriver.
Insert a small screwdriver through bores (3) and release catches.





Note:
Insert screwdriver to a depth of max. 5 mm and unlock cover bowl catch.





Close flap (1).
Twist out cover housing (2) and remove.





Installation:
Using fitting aid (1), pull sealing lip (2) over sheet metal flange of wheel arch (3).





Installation:
Illustrations shows fuel filler pipe removed.
Check that sealing lip is correctly seated.





Installation:
Cover housing must snap audibly into place.
After installing, carefully check that cover bowl is securely seated.
There must be no discernible gap between sealing lip and side panel in area (1).





Installation:
Locks (1) on left/right of cover (2) must not be damaged.
