SUBJECT
Missing "Hand Wash Car Only" Label

MODEL
R53 (Cooper S with JCW GP Kit)

SITUATION
Due to the unique design of the rear spoiler on the Cooper S JCW GP Kit, damage to the spoiler and/or body of the car may occur if the car is taken through an automatic car wash. As a precaution, all of these vehicles should have a label on the B Pillar reminding the customer to HAND WASH CAR ONLY, in addition to a note in the Supplemental Owner's Manual.

Some of these vehicles did not have this label installed prior to dealer delivery.

CAUSE
This label was inadvertently not installed during processing prior to dealer delivery.

CORRECTION

^ The label should be applied prior to customer hand over.





^ A letter has been mailed to the Service Manager at all dealerships with affected vehicles (copy included). The chassis numbers of the affected vehicles at those respective dealerships are included in those letters along with the appropriate number of labels.





^ Some vehicles have been delivered to customers without this label. A letter, including the label and installation instructions, has been sent out to these customers. Some of these customers however, may prefer to have the label applied at their local MINI dealer (copy included).

PROCEDURE

Inspect the B Pillar on the driver's side door opening and if the HAND WASH CAR ONLY label is missing, install one per the following instructions:

1. Clean the painted surface above the door striker with a clean, dry cloth.

2. Prepare the surface by applying a small amount of commercially available silicone or adhesive remover to a cloth and cleaning the area to which the label will be applied to.

3. Allow the area to dry completely.

4. Remove the backing from the self adhesive label.





5. Apply the label (1), to the B Pillar area directly above the door striker (2), and press it firmly into place.
