Technical Service

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL
AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE
OR REPAIRS, AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Code Convertible Top Module

MODEL
R52 (Convertible)

SITUATION
The CVM (Convertible Top Module) does not go into sleep mode. This results in a high current draw when the vehicle is switched off.

If the vehicle is unused for a period of 7 14 days, the battery will become discharged, and it will no longer be possible to start the engine.

Copies of the customer notification letter and Q&A are included.

To minimize customer's inconvenience caused by this Service Action, you may pick-up (and deliver after repair) from the customer's home, or provide appropriate alternative transportation.

Customers will be impressed when you return their vehicle cleaned inside and out and with a full tank of gas. Reimbursement information for the vehicle fueling and valet costs can be found in the Warranty section of this bulletin.

CAUSE
CVM coding fault

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE

1. Recode the CVM:

^ Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.

^ Start Progman and select "New session".

^ Select "MINI", select R50/R52/R53.

^ Select "Load software".

^ Answer the control unit replacement query with "No".

For vehicles with a standard instrument cluster:

^ With ignition "off", press and hold the panel dimmer (1).

^ Press the trip reset button (2) three times.

^ Release the panel dimmer button.

^ The display (3) first shows the battery voltage immediately prior to the last sleep cycle.

^ e.g. "--9.1 --1260" = 12.60 volts

^ The display then cycles to lowest battery
voltage.

^ e.g. "--9.2 --0860" = 8.60 volts

Follow the above procedure and read off the display. Depending on the results obtained, follow the appropriate procedure below:

For vehicles with the double instrument cluster:

^ With ignition "off", press and hold the panel dimmer (1).

^ Press the trip reset button (2) three times.

^ Release the panel dimmer button.

^ The display (3) first shows the battery voltage immediately prior to the last sleep cycle.

^ e.g. "--3.0 --1260" = 12.60 volts

^ The display then cycles to lowest battery voltage.

^ e.g. "--3.1 --0860" = 8.60 volts

Follow the above procedure and read off the display. Depending on the results obtained, follow the appropriate procedure below:

Reinitialize both power windows. To initialize, raise the window glass and keep the switch depressed in the "Lift" position for approx. 5 seconds and then release. Refer to repair instruction RA 67 62..(Notes on initializing power window unit (front).

PARTS INFORMATION

This Service Action has been assigned code number 28. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-036) and:

a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 28 printed on the label (2) and,

c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
