Replacing Front Axle Support
Special Tools Required:
^ 32 1 190
^ 32 3 090

Remove road wheels.

Remove bumper.

Remove bumper carrier.

Remove crush tube.

Use KDS to check wheel alignment.





Remove nuts (1) securing supply tank to bulkhead.
PAS reservoir to bracket
M6 Nut 8 Nm

Remove nut (2) from bracket clamp and remove clamp from tank.
PAS reservoir to bracket
M6 Nut 5.5 Nm ± 1 Nm





Remove nuts and disconnect steering tie rod ends using special tool 32 3 090 (1).
Outer ball joint to knuckle
M10 x 1.25 x 12 Locknut 52 Nm
Note: Use only once.





Disconnect left and right stabilizer links to stabilizer bar (1).
Front anti-roll bar link to anti-roll bar
M10 x 1.5 56 Nm
Note: use only once.





Disconnect both lower arm to knuckle ball joints using special tool 32 1 190.
Outer ball joints to lower arm
M12 x 1.5 Nut 56 Nm
Note: Use only once.





Disconnect PAS pump electrical connector (1).

Disconnect high voltage connector (2) by pulling straight.





Disconnect steering column from rack.

Remove nut (1) and remove bolt (2).

Release column in direction arrow shows.

Install hint:
Replace self-locking nut.
Lower universal joint clamping nut
M8 Nut 22 Nm
Note: Use only once





CVT only:
Slacken cable retaining nut (1).
Squeeze cable retaining clips (2) and remove cable from abutment bracket (3).
Release cable (4).





Remove bolts (1) securing engine lower stabilizer (2) and remove.
Lower stabilizer to oil sump holder 100 Nm
Lower stabilizer to front axle 100 Nm






Locate gearbox hydraulic jack (1) to subframe jacking point (2).





Remove left and right front subframe center bolts (1) to body.
Front subframe centre to body
M12 x 1,75 x 18 100 Nm
Note: Self forming.





Remove bolts (1) securing left and right compliance bush housings (2) to body.
Compliance bush housing to body
M10 Screw 59 Nm + 90° ± 15°

Install hint:
Tighten only after all other subframe bolts have been tightened, to avoid tension on the housing.





Remove all bolts (1) securing rear of subframe to body.
Front subframe rear to body
M12 x 1.75 x 61.7 100 Nm
Note: Self forming.

Lower subframe guiding PAS reservoir down through engine compartment.

Also guide cable out from between subframe and steering rack (CVT only).





Hold reservoir vertical using a 4 mm piece of rod as shown in diagram.





Remove anti-roll bar bolts (1) and remove anti-roll bar.
Compliance bush housing to subframe
M14 x 1.5 x 80 165 Nm





Remove bolts (1) securing inner ball joints to subframe.

Remove lower arms complete.
Inner ball joint to subframe
M12 1.5 Screw 100 Nm

Remove clips (2) for undertray from subframe.





Remove heat shield from rack.
Heatshield to steering rack
M6 screw
M6 Nut 8 Nm





Remove nut (1) from PAS pipe mounting.
High pressure pipe to rubber mount
M6 8 Nm





Remove steering rack bolts (1) from right and left sides of rack.
Steering gear to subframe
M10 x 45 56 Nm





Remove 2 bolts (1) securing PAS pump bracket to subframe.
Powerpack mounting bracket to subframe
M8 x 1.25 x 12 Screw 19 Nm

Remove nut (2) securing bracket to subframe.
Remove pump from subframe.





Remove bolts (1) securing stone deflector to subframe.
Stone deflector to subframe
M6 7 Nm





Install hint:
Fit new ABS harness clips to subframe.
