SUBJECT
MY '05 Cooper with 5-speed Getrag - Rattling Noise at Idle

MODEL
R50/R52 (MINI Cooper) with G-252 Getrag manual transmission from 07/04 up to 09/05

SITUATION
Customer may complain of the rattling/grinding noise coming from the transmission area when in neutral during a cold start. The noise disappears when the clutch pedal is depressed.

CAUSE
Excessive engine vibration is transferred to the transmission due to inadequate dampening capabilities of the clutch assembly.

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, replace clutch plate disc with the improved part PN 21 20 7 560 121. For clutch disc replacement procedure, refer to RA 11 22 500 found in MINI TIS.
