Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

31 21 080 - Replacing left or right steering knuckle





Special tools required:
- 32 1 190 32 1 090 Removal Tool
- 32 3 090 32 3 090 Extractor





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove bearings Front Axle (wheel hub) for front wheel





Release nut and detach tie rod with special tool 32 3 090 32 3 090 Extractor (1).

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts
Tightening torque 32 21 1AZ [1][2]Specifications.





Release nut and detach control arm with special tool 32 1 190 32 1 090 Removal Tool.

Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts
Tightening torque 31 12 1AZ Control Arms and Struts (Front).





Important!
Support swivel bearing.

Release screw for swivel bearing/spring strut and remove swivel bearing.

Installation:
Tightening torque 31 21 1AZ Front Axle.





The following components must be modified when the swivel bearing is replaced:
- Brake console/brake guard plate Service and Repair
- Wheel guide joint Replacing Wheel Guide Joint in Left or Right Control Arm
