Removing and Installing/ Replacing Left Drive Shaft
Special Tools Required:
^ 24 8 120
^ 32 1 190
^ 32 3 090
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Remove wheel. Please refer to: Service and Repair
- Remove wheel speed sensor. Please refer to:
- Drain gear oil
After completing work, top up transmission oil.
Release collar nut (1), press brake pedal to floor for this purpose.
Installation:
Replace collar nut
Tightening Torque
Important!
Secure collar nut after tightening down on flattened area of drive shaft by peening.
Release screws (1) and remove brake caliper.
Tie back brake caliper.
Installation:
Tightening Torque.
Release nut and detach tie rod end with special tool 32 3 090 (1)
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts
Tightening Torque
Release nut and use special tool 32 1 190 to detach control arm from steering knuckle.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts
Tightening Torque
Detach inner drive shaft joint from transmission.
Installation:
Replace circlip.
Release screw and remove steering knuckle from spring strut.
Installation:
Tightening Torque.
Important!
Support steering knuckle
Lift out drive shaft with steering knuckle and remove drive shaft froms steering knuckle.
Installation:
Replace shaft seal in transmission.
Depress special tool 21 8 120 on shaft seal. Make sure the tool fits over the sealing ring lip so the the sealing ring is protected when the drive shaft is inserted.
Important!
The assembly guard from the shaft seal repair kit must be used on Getrag transmission.
Installation:
Insert drive shaft in seal and remove special tool 24 8 120 by pulling handle.
Reassemble drive shaft.
Push drive shaft over resistance of snap ring. The drive shaft must snap audibly into place.
Add transmission oil and check for leaks.
