Fusible Link: Service and Repair




Fuseable Link - Replace (COOPER S)


CAUTION!
Observe safety instructions.
Investigate cause of triggering of safety battery terminal. To do so, read out fault memory of airbag control unit. Note fault messages stored in memory. Rectify faults. Then clear fault memory.


Remove battery.







Remove nut (1) securing cable to battery positive terminal cable.
Tightening torque 5 Nm.
Release battery cable from terminal (2).
Disconnect SBK connector (3).







Release clips (1) securing fuseable link cover.
Remove cover (2).







Release SBK terminal connector (1) from fuseable link housing.
Remove nut (2) securing battery cable to fuseable link terminal and release cable (3).
Tightening torque 13 Nm.
Remove fuseable link housing (4) from body by lifting up (as shown) and then forward.
Replacement only:
Remove nut (5) securing fuse to fuseable link terminal.
Tightening torque 15 Nm.
Remove fuse (6).
Remove nut (7) securing battery cable to fuseable link terminal and remove cable (8).
Tightening torque 13 Nm.

Install hint:
Fit new battery positive cable in the reverse order of the above. Start from the front, working rearwards.
Connect up the battery in reverse sequence. First connect the positive lead and then the negative lead.
Reset clock.
Initialise both window regulators.
