Repair instructions for scratched rear side window

Complaint

Glass in the rear side window scratched at the rear seal. See Fig. 1.

Cause

Dust on the inside of the outer end plate causes scratches on the rear side windows when these are operated.

Repair instruction

1. Check the setting of the rail for the seal. The gap between the seal holder and outer end plate must be between 0.5 mm and 2.5 mm. To check and set the gap width, see repair instruction RA5434100.
2. Replace the side window in accordance with repair instruction RA5137171.
3. Check the setting of the rear side window in accordance with repair instruction RA5132154 and adjust if necessary.
4. Replace the seal holder in the C-pillar in accordance with repair instruction RA5434343.

Note

To carry out point 1, do not remove the outer shaft strip or end plate.

Series solution

For vehicles as of date of manufacture 20.01.2006, modified seal holders are already fitted in the C-pillar.
